What is the difference between gluten free and wheat free?

If someone has coeliac disease it means they cannot tolerate any gluten in their diets. Gluten is found in wheat, rye, barley and oats. However, some coeliacs can tolerate oats.

‘Gluten free’ doesn’t necessarily mean ‘wheat free’. Wheat starch, which is what is left when gluten is removed from wheat, can be used in gluten-free diets

How do I know what is wheat free and gluten free?

Most products are labelled Wheat Free or Gluten Free with a comprehensive list of ingredients.

What is the difference between allergy and intolerance?

If someone has an allergy to a specific food product they cannot tolerate even a trace of that product in their diet. If someone has an intolerance to a specific food product they may be able to tolerate small quantities of that product at times

Are eggs dairy free?

Eggs are generally not classed as dairy.

Is cheese dairy free?

No, but some people who are intolerant to dairy can eat goats cheese.
